theROCKcenterforDANCE requires a DRESS CODE for all ENROLLED students

Maintaining a dress code:

  • Promotes focus and a stronger work ethic in class.
  • Allows teachers to clearly see and adjust body placement, position, and alignment.

General Rules:

  • No jewelry in class. Small earrings are okay.
  • Dancewear must be clean, laundered after each wearing.
  • Hair should be clean and pulled back properly
  • Deodorant should be considered for age 8 and up.
  • Dance shoes and all belongings should be labeled with NAME.
  • No heavy perfume.
  • Dance shoes are not to be worn outside. No “outside” shoes in class.
  • Underwear are not to be worn under dancewear.
    • Fitted, modest underwear should be worn only if a student is wearing a leotard without tights or shorts.
  • Students must be ready and properly dressed before entering the classroom.
  • Students not properly dressed, will be asked to observe class.

Predance & Combodance

  • Leotard
  • Tights are optional during hot summer months
  • Additional dancewear: Ballet tutus, petticoat skirts, colorful tights, etc are welcome
  • Pink ballet shoes, Black tap shoes
  • Hair – pulled back away from face in bun, ponytail or braid.

TapJazz

  • Leotard
  • Form fitted dance shorts
  • Tights – Capri or footless or no tights. No footed tights.
  • Tan bloch “Tap On” tap shoes, bare feet for jazz
  • Hair – pulled back away from face in bun, ponytail or braid.

Ballet, Jr Ballet

  • Leotard- Black, any style
  • Tights – Pink convertible/transition tights (hole on bottom of foot)
  • Ballet Shoes- Pink –  Bloch or Theatricals split sole preferred
  • Hair – Pulled back in a bun, NO whispies

Jazz

Boys

  • Fitted white or black T-shirt or tank (no baggy)
  • Fitted shorts or boys tights for ballet
  • Jazz – Dance shorts, boys leggings or cropped sweat pants above the knee
  • White or black ballet shoes for ballet
  • Boys should bring clean socks with them to class

Jazz/Contemporary/Progressions

  • Tights – Convertible, Footless, or NO tights
  • Leotard or Dance bra/Half Top
  • Fitted dance shorts
  • Half shoes, bare feet or socks
  • Hair – pulled back away from face in bun or high bun

Tap

  • Form fitted top, Leotard or Camisole dance top
  • Dance shorts, Capri or knee lengths pants. No long pants.
  • Tap 1 & 2 – Bloch “Tap On”  or Sansha “Tee Tap “- Tan Tap shoes
  • Tap 3 & 4 – Full soled, oxford style (lace up) tap shoe – Black. We Recommend Bloch “Audeo”, “Respect”,
  • Hair – pulled back away from face in bun, ponytail or braid.

Hip Hop

  • Comfy, easy to move in (tank top, sweats)
  • CLEAN Sneakers
  • NO BLACK rubber-soled shoes

Shoe Guidelines: If you are a new student and your shoes do not meet our criteria, it’s okay. We ask that when purchasing new shoes, please choose within the criteria. Proper shoes will be required for performance. Shoes may be purchased at Discount Dance Supply online. www.discountdance.com
